We study analytically and numerically the small signal gain in dual-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers by including the phase modulation of the pump waves needed for practically increasing the stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold. As for the single-pump case, we show that large signal gain distortions are generated under co-phase modulation, which depend on the rise/fall time of the phase modulation and on the fiber dispersion slope. However, it is clearly confirmed that the counter-phase modulation scheme allows to efficiently suppress these gain distortions over the whole flat gain region. In addition, we demonstrate through realistic numerical simulations that this useful technique overcomes the additional impact of pump-phase modulation to amplitude modulation conversion and zero-dispersion wavelength variations.  相似文献

We showed that cross-gain modulation is dominant over another kind of common signal quality degradation, namely four-wave mixing, in a two-pump fiber optical parametric amplifier (OPA) WDM system. We also demonstrated experimentally that the signal quality degradation can be improved significantly by a two-orthogonal-pump OPA (2OP-OPA) over the conventional two-parallel-pump OPA (2PP-OPA).  相似文献

The design and modeling of a quantum cascade optical amplifier (QCOA) using intra-cavity non-linear interactions to achieve wavelength conversion is proposed. The model is based on the nonlinear equation coupled with Maxwell wave equations for different emission modes. In the proposed structure, four wave mixing (FWM) output exhibits a peak as a function of pump and probe frequency if they are tuned to the energy levels of the QC structure subbands. Results demonstrate that the FWM output signal power significantly depends on how subbands are engineered and interact with optical pulses which propagate in multi layer medium. In addition, we show that by adjusting pump and probe signal frequencies, FWM output power can be tuned.  相似文献

Flexible discrete location problems are a generalization of most classical discrete locations problems like p-median or p-center problems. They can be modeled by using so-called ordered median functions. These functions multiply a weight to the cost of fulfilling the demand of a customer, which depends on the position of that cost relative to the costs of fulfilling the demand of other customers.In this paper a covering type of model for the discrete ordered median problem is presented. For the solution of this model two sets of valid inequalities, which reduces the number of binary variables tremendously, and several variable fixing strategies are identified. Based on these concepts a specialized branch & cut procedure is proposed and extensive computational results are reported.  相似文献

An all-optical scheme for simultaneously realizing OR and AND logic gates based on three-input four-wave mixing (FWM) arising in a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed and demonstrated. It has the ability to process not only conventional non-return-to-zero-ON-OFF-keying (NRZ-OOK) and return-to-zero-OOK (RZ-OOK) formats but also carrier-suppressed return-to-zero-OOK (CSRZ-OOK) format signals. Firstly, the performance of 40 Gb/s logic operation is numerically evaluated by a comprehensive dynamic SOA model considering three input signal induced FWM effect. Then, 10 Gb/s experimental demonstrations with clear waveforms and high extinction ratios (ERs) further verify the logic integrity of this scheme. Thus, the OR and AND logic gates simultaneously achieved within a single logic unit is compact and cost-effective for future optical signal processing applications.  相似文献

Four-wave mixing process with a large group index difference of the signal and idler pulses in a nonlinear optical fiber is theoretically investigated when the pump is continuous light. We prove that in the four-wave mixing process, the signal and idler waves would finally propagate in a common group velocity in spite of their different group indices. When the effective phase mismatch in four-wave mixing is not zero, their carrier frequencies shift in different directions. The asymptotic result of the signal and idler shape and carrier frequency shift are obtained. The theoretical prediction is validated by the numerical simulation.  相似文献

A simulation analysis of the impact that the nonlinear response of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) has in a four-channel WDM pre-amplified transmission system is presented in the framework of the recently proposed extended-reach (40-km, 4 × 25 Gb/s) 100 Gb Ethernet link. Channel spacing values ranging from 200 to 800 GHz, and fiber losses between 0 and −20 dB are considered. A maximum power penalty of 4.5 dB is predicted for short fiber lengths and for the tightest channel plan. For short fiber lengths, the penalty drops by about 0.8 dB when moving from 400 to 800 GHz; whereas for long fiber lengths, the penalty increases by 0.2 dB, provided that an average dispersive fiber is utilized. The widely spaced channel plan then represents the best choice in terms of the analyzed physical effects to implement the next-generation 100 GbE link. Further, our numerical investigation includes a discrimination analysis that confirms cross-gain modulation as the main overall SOA nonlinear impairment in the analyzed architecture, and establishes ultra-fast carrier heating-induced FWM as responsible for the system performance difference observed as a function of channel spacing. The difference practically vanishes for fiber lengths above 30 km. Finally, the proposal of an equation that fits the simulated power spectrum density of the first-order four-wave mixing-generated product as a function of channel spacing is presented as an aid to validate our numerical results.  相似文献

We have theoretically and experimentally investigated polarization insensitive of all optical wavelength conversion for polarization multiplexing signal based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in nonlinear optical fiber. Optical polarization multiplexing technique can be used to double the transmission bit rate by adding data on each of two orthogonal optical states. At the receiver side, the two orthogonal signals can be obtained by direct detection. The eye diagrams of the original signals have been probed and compared with the converted one in this experiment. The characteristics of the converted signal have been fully studied and a little crosstalk which leads a better corresponding eye diagram has been obtained after polarization demultiplexing.  相似文献

This method may be considered as a discrete versionof the H1-Galerkin method in which the discretization is achievedby approximating the integrals by a composite Gauss quadraturerule.
